Honors 

  • Distinguished Service Award presented by the Conference of County Court Judges of Florida in July 2014 in recognition and appreciation for outstanding service to the advancement of the Conference and Florida's judicial system as a Conference representative on the Judicial Management Council.  The Judicial Management Council is an advisory committee recreated by the Florida Supreme Court to "assist the court with forward-looking vision to better fulfill it's mission to protect rights and liberties, uphold and interpret the law, and provide for the peaceful resolution of disputes". 

  • Appointed by The Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court to serve on the Judicial Management Council in 2012

  • One of the highest ranked Brevard County Judges based on the last two Judicial Polls.

  • Received award from Brevard C.A.R.E.S in 2010

  • Appointed by the Chief Judge of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit to conduct disciplinary proceedings regarding allegations of misconduct by a licensed lawyer in 2011 

  • Katrina Hurricane Relief Award from Clerk of Court of Brevard County in 2005

  • Volunteer Award from the Brevard County's Teen Court Program in 2000

  • Recognized in an article by the Florida Today Newspaper as the 10th top D.U.I defense lawyer in Brevard County in 1999

  • Appreciation Award from Sheriff Miller for assistance in the drug sting operation "Zero Tolerance" in 1989

Judge Garagozlo has resided in Brevard County for the past 23 years.
He is has been married for 25 years. They have two children ages 23 and 21 who were born and educated in Brevard County. Both graduates of Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy. They reside in Melbourne with their family pet a Yorkshire
Terrier named Coco.

  • In 2006 Governor Jeb Bush appointed Benjamin Garagozlo as a Brevard County Court Judge. In his 8 years on the bench both as a County Court Judge and Acting Circuit Court Judge he has presided over 15,000 civil and criminal cases. 

  • Judge Garagozlo believes that one should give back to the community. Each week he volunteers as a driver with Meals on Wheels delivering food to home bound seniors and disabled individuals. Each year Judge Garagozlo provides a scholarship through the Brevard County School District for a deserving high school graduate who seeks to further his or her education. 

  • Judge Garagozlo began his legal career as an associate with the Law Office of William J Sheaffer in Orlando Florida. Then in March of 1988, Judge Garagozlo became an Assistant State Attorney with the Office of the State Attorney, Brevard County, Florida. As a Prosecutor he handled cases ranging from misdemeanors up to homicides. In 1994 he entered private practice as a sole practitioner representing individuals in the areas of criminal defense and general trial practice. He has also represented police officers as an attorney with the local Fraternal Order of Police. He was also special counsel to the Brevard County School Board.

  • After the events of September 11, 2001 Judge Garagozlo took a leave of absence from private practice to assist the Federal Government as an Assistant District Counsel with the U.S.Department of Justice and later with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. In that capacity Judge Garagozlo represented the U.S Government before the Federal Immigration Court in removal and deportation proceedings. He then returned back to Brevard County and was privileged to represent his former clients such as the Brevard County School Board in terminating teachers who had committed acts of sexual and physical abuse against our students.

  • Judge Garagozlo has served his community with honor, integrity and humility for the past 23 years.
